One thing imo the press has not done very well is

Perhaps the most recent scare with any similarity to covid 19 was the polio epidemic which peaked in the early 50's with an average of 16000 cases /yr in the usa and nearly 2000 deaths /yr in the usa.
So far the usa has had 2 MILLION cases and 113000 deaths (june 11 article) almost all in only the 3.5 months(not one yr) since cases began to become significant.
this has impacted the economy far more than any previous situation in the usa, especially in the last 100 years.
Thus, what is different this time is a crisis of economic and health and fear proportions which is capable of breaking through the usual things which constrain innovation:
1) namely the usual powerful train of inertia which prevents new products from coming to market has been toppled
2)almost all humans live in a tiny box and cannot see anything outside that box- a box more real than physical blinders- we see part of that box in the emphasis on PCR tech
but this cirsis is big enough to force some to think outside the box
Thus, for the 1st time, based on publicly available info,NNLX has more than one suitor. As long as NNLX only had one suitor, big boys no doubt did what they do best- manipulate and control and take advantage of small companies with huge docs written by their armies of lawyers-docs which are hugely manipulative and insulting to the small companies the big boys "bargain" with- but its not typically a bargaining- its typically a very nasty, "take it or leave it,smallfry".
But now due to the above the big boys may be forced to play fair. Now there are multiple suitors - a competition for tech NNLX has.
NNLX is still forced to confront the typical game re its flatpack petri plates but this is a new game.
Also, as one or more have partially pointed out,due to the sheer number of cases and people, there will probably be a mishmash of different testing methods employed until a sufficient number of kits of a clearly superior product can be produced-and even then economics and more traditional games will probably ensure that multiple testing products are still being used, especially for different niches.
This is encouraging for the various testing products, for it greatly reduces the chances that any product will completely become obsolete quickly-reducing the chances of big boys silencing NNLX product (as Mach has pointed out oil co's did re solar etc),especially since big boys likely will be licensing NNLX product.
