Not everyone can benefit from what they hear or see. For the first twenty years of my employment I worked as an auditor, public and private sectors, and at junior, senior, supervisory and senior management levels. I recall speaking to a mid-level auditor that had reviewed the finished goods inventory work papers which were prepared by his assistant. They made no sense to me as I knew how often the inventory turned over, typical monthly sales, purchases of raw materials, planned obsolescence, and average cost of sales, etc. Therefore, the figures on the work papers were highly suspect..........I did not see the financials whereas the auditor I was speaking to did............when asked how I knew the numbers collected by the auditor were incorrect.......... I explained that when we had lunch with the plant manager, credit manager and inventory control supervisor we were given a lot of information and those that shared it with us had no clue the degree to which they made our job much easier. For example, none of three men that joined my assistant and I at lunch probably knew how often the inventory turned over yet all three provided what I needed to calculate the number.
Not everyone can benefit from what they see and hear.
