(1) PIC Design and Fabrication Engineer
Lightwave Logic (LWLG) is a public material and device development company that is commercializing its leading Organic Nonlinear Polymers for a variety of electro-optic devices that will be part of our polymer PIC platform. The primary applications for our polymer PIC platform will in high-speed fiber-optic telecom and data communications. Our development roadmap is focuses on addressing 100Gbps opportunities using 25Gbps polymer modulators, and 400Gbps opportunities using 50Gbps modulators. Our materials and devices are extendable into other applications, including sensing, IoT, defense, and consumer markets. We are seeking a Photonic Integrated Circuit (PIC) design engineer to work in our facility in Longmont, CO. Lightwave offers competitive compensation and benefits along with a fast-paced working environment.

Lightwave Logic is seeking an experienced PIC engineer with either III-V compound semiconductor and/or Silicon Photonics experience to enhance the company’s activities in developing our polymer PIC platform. This position requires hands-on experience in the design of PIC circuits (using at least typical commercial software tools), and demonstrated fabrication and testing of the PIC circuits. Experience in data rates above 10Gbps would be needed. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, and qualification of our polymer PIC platform.

Specific duties will include:
Design and modeling of PIC platform and the associated active and passive devices
Familiarity of III-V compound semiconductors and silicon based material systems
Fabrication and testing of PICs with associated statistical analysis of results and performance
Design of polymers and key characteristics
Basic optical high speed characterization skills e.g. optical loss, optical modal properties and other passive/active characteristics of electro-optical polymer devices as well as inorganic III-V and silicon devices.
Designing devices from low frequencies to multi-GHz (10-100 GHz) to be integrated onto our polymer PIC platform.
Working effectively as part of an inter-disciplinary engineering team that includes device designers, micro-fabrication engineers, packaging and test engineers and technicians.
Experience and Education Requirements
Minimum B.S. or M.S. (preferably PhD) in a relevant field, preferably physics, or electrical or optical engineering.
Post graduate experience in designing, modeling, and simulation of high-speed photonic devices as part of a PIC platform. A plus would be a solid background in III-V and/or silicon photonic PIC platforms and experience using commercial PIC design software tools.
Three to five years’ experience working in PIC based development and design environment. A plus would be experience in a commercial advanced development and manufacturing environment where PIC platforms have been productized.
Demonstrated technical innovation and experience in related disciplines such as multi-GHz photonic device evaluation and data analysis. A plus would be experience in coherent and tunable designs with control of intensity, polarization, and phase to high speed digital signaling.
(2) Electro-optic/Photonic Device Evaluation Engineer

We are seeking an Electro-optic/ Photonics Device Evaluation Engineer to work in our facility in Longmont, CO. Lightwave Logic is seeking an experienced electro-optic/photonic device evaluation engineer to enhance the company’s activities in developing fiber-optic-coupled multi-GHz optical guided–wave modulators and photonic integrated circuits (PICs) based on innovative electro-optic polymers. This position requires hands-on experience in optical and rf measurements and data analysis, and collaborative work in test equipment development. The successful candidate will play a key role in the evaluation, characterization, development and qualification of these modulators and circuits in this rapidly growing company.
These products will significantly advance the state of the modulator commercial art in low-power and low-loss operation up to at least 50 GHz, and will be key components in next-generation fiber optic telecom and datacom systems operating at 100 Gbps and beyond. The devices will be fabricated on silicon substrates and in some cases will be incorporated into nanoscale silicon photonic chips. The developed technology will be extendable to multi-modulator PICs.

Specific duties will include:
Evaluating loss, modal properties and other passive characteristics of electro-optical polymer waveguide devices. This task includes designing and implementing advanced fiber-based optical test systems, data collection and analysis.
Evaluating electro-optic properties of advanced polymers. This task includes helping to design and implement optical/electrical/mechanical test equipment.
Evaluating electro-optic properties of modulators, from low frequencies to multi-GHz (10-100 GHz). Tasks includes designing and implementing advanced electro-optic test systems for both packaged and unpackaged modulator chips, data collection and analysis.
Evaluating a multiplicity of modulators and passive polymer photonics device, including the use of statistical methods to assess device environmental integrity and manufacturability.
Operating and helping to modify and maintain as required, electro-optic test equipment such as network analyzers, spectrum analyzers, DCA’s, lasers and photodiodes, micro-positioning mounts and data collection interfaces.
Supervising and directing electro-optic technicians.
Working effectively as part of an inter-disciplinary engineering team that includes device designers, micro-fabrication engineers, packaging and test engineers and technicians.
Experience and Education Requirements
B.S. or M.S. in a relevant field, preferably physics, or electrical or optical engineering.
Post graduate experience in characterizing high-speed photonic devices. A plus would be a solid background in advanced digital device evaluation using DCA’s, PRBS PG’s, LCA’s, etc.
Three to five years’ experience working in rf/electro-optic testing and commercial photonic device evaluation.
Demonstrated technical innovation and experience in related disciplines such as multi-GHz photonic device evaluation and data analysis.
Experience with optical and/or electro-optic polymer materials highly desired, but not mandatory.
Experience in or good working knowledge of photonic devices, preferably guided-wave structures.
Demonstrated ability to effectively work in an engineering product-development team and with other relevant groups such as external suppliers, consultants, and partners.
Skill and experience in effective and timely communications both oral and written.
(3) Optical/Photonic Polymer Engineer

Lightwave Logic is seeking an experienced optical polymer engineer who can identify polymer materials for given device specifications. In this role, the optical polymer engineer will be expected to develop and communicate polymer materials for synthesis as well as fabrication, test, characterize, and evaluate these materials. These materials will be used to support Lightwave Logic’s polymer PIC platform at very high data rates. The successful candidate will play a key role in the design, development, and qualification of our polymer PIC platform from a polymer materials perspective.

Specific duties will include:
Be able to generate specification sheets on materials and device properties/parameters
Identify polymer materials for given device specifications
Develop and communicate materials processing (e.g. develop travelers for device technician; needs to be able to develop the new process, not necessarily run the process)
Identify organic polymer materials for evaluation and be able to perform simple fabrication and testing on those materials
Characterize and evaluate organic polymer materials and perform data analysis of their properties (including DOEs)
Work closely and collaborate with organic polymer chemists who can synthesize materials at Lightwave Logic.
Write, present, and detail technical reports on materials analyzed
Review and evaluate external research work on polymer material properties and experimental results
Assume responsibility for materials support/schedules into the device team
Communicate effectively between materials team and device team
Working effectively as part of an inter-disciplinary engineering team that includes device designers, micro-fabrication engineers, packaging and test engineers and technicians.
Experience and Education Requirements
Minimum B.S. or M.S. (preferably PhD) in a relevant field, preferably organic chemical/organic chemistry engineering or other disciplines that contain organic chemical/organic chemistry engineering.
At least three years’ experience working to optimize polymer based material systems for product, ideally high speed devices.
