My older brother is a ENT surgeon. When he was doing his Internship and Residency at Parkland Hospital in Dallas, I was 16 and followed him around the hospital for a week. I saw gory stuff in the Emergency Rooms, I saw surgeries. But nothing haunted me more than entering the "burn ward" where people had sustained up to 70 or 80% burns all over their body.
I distinctly remember the burned scabs instead of skin all over their body. They jsut lay there unable to really move. There were several of them in a large room where they were being monitored. I was speechless after seeing that. It was very depressing!
People with that many burns usually die. The skin is very vital for our survival. This is a fascinating new therapy we've purchased and one that could make a miraculous difference in people's lives.
