Yes, shareholders of record are indeed shareholders, however, that does not represent the total number of shareholders who own EWSI. Contact Susan Johnson for an explanation. But, I do believe the company reports this number and it may indeed be related to private placement holders or insiders who own shares.
It does not represent the number of people who own the stock. I would be shocked if the total number of people holding shares of EWSI is less than 800 - 1000. Only the company knows exactly how many shareholders there are as they have to pull the OBO and NOBO lists as well as a DTCC report for mailings that need to go to all shareholders for corporate matters needing shareholder interaction.
