Nuvve Partners to Propel Bidirectional EV Charging Across Europe
Nuvve Partners with EVVE Project for Enhanced Charging Solutions
Nuvve, a leader in Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G) technology, has taken a significant step forward by participating in the EVVE (Environmental Valorization of Virtual Energy storage) project. The initiative aims to accelerate the installation of bidirectional charging stations for electric vehicles across Europe. By joining this venture, Nuvve intends to leverage its extensive V2G expertise and provide innovative solutions in several European nations.
Rationale Behind the EVVE Initiative
Launched in collaboration with prominent partners, Nuvve stands alongside the EDF Group and Dreev. This partnership intends to deploy a network of 800 V2G charging stations throughout Europe, a move designed to drastically cut down CO2 emissions. The EVVE project harnesses the potential of electric vehicles for storing low-carbon energy, facilitating advanced functionalities aligned with the Combo CCS European charging standard.
Deployment of Advanced Charging Infrastructure
According to Xavier Moreau, EVP of Strategy at Nuvve, the focus is to roll out V2G technology in preparation for a scalable energy ecosystem in Europe. “With this EVVE project, Nuvve is among the first to effectively utilize the Combo CCS standard for V2G. By aggregating electric vehicles, we offer a vital resource for grid operators, allowing them to manage energy systems that increasingly incorporate renewables,” he stated.
Investment in Infrastructure
As part of the collaborative efforts in the EVVE project, Nuvve will install approximately 100 state-of-the-art charging stations, integrating both CHAdeMO and CCS standards into their operations. This endeavor represents a significant investment of around $400,000, further expanding Nuvve’s initiative in managing multiple megawatts of energy. Nuvve has emerged as a pioneer in providing "V2G as a Service" solutions, demonstrating its commitment to helping both corporate and public fleets efficiently connect electric vehicles to the energy grid.
Collaborative Partners and Future Development
The consortium includes several additional partners such as Altra from the IVECO Group, BNP Paribas Mobility (comprised of Arval and BNP Paribas Leasing Solutions), Enedis, IZIVIA, Stellantis, and Volkswagen Group France. Together, they are working towards deploying the full quota of charging stations projected within the EVVE framework. Supported by the European Union's Innovation Fund, this project is anticipated to serve as a catalyst for the industrialization of V2G technology in Europe.
Technological Advancements and Benefits
Through the EVVE initiative, partners aim to test and refine cutting-edge V2G technologies, thereby evaluating their practical applications for customers, particularly fleet operators. This progressive effort contributes significantly to developing a more flexible and sustainable energy framework. So far, the project has successfully installed 250 V2G charging stations, with many located in France and Denmark, showcasing the advancement made since its inception.
