When you're the only bidder at a certain price you'll see it in level 2. That's how I knew when I had bids ignored. You're right though, if several bids are in by the same broker, the only way to see yours appear in level 2 is to watch for the increase by your bid size, and that can change quickly so you can't always keep track of it that way.
