PENMONT MINING REPORTS
H. H. Caborca, Sonora, April 6, 2020.- Penmont mining, subsidiary of Fresnillo plc, denounces and strongly rejects criminal actions committed a few days ago by a group of people who are said to be linked to individuals who are credited as ejidatarios of Ejido el Bajío, located in this city, although they are originally from Sinaloa and outside the region. The events occurred on the early morning of March 26, when an armed command raided private property of the company with luxury of violence.
This reprehensible act adds to the illegal actions that this group of criminals have been doing in recent weeks with extreme violence and use of thick guns.
His last act of intimidation left 14 people injured and five people who were initially missing and were found with physical injuries. For all these criminal acts, the company made the corresponding complaints.
These acts, cowardly and reprobable, seek to generate fear and uncertainty, and disturb the safety of those who make up the team of mining Penmont; these actions are outside all legal act and has no legal sustenance that justifies such trespasion that seek the dispossession of private property I love you.
This criminal group has unsuccessfully tried to deceive federal and state governments, accusing the company of victimizing them and stripping them of their lands. In fact, this group, which absolutely lacks legal arguments, aims to occupy privately owned land for outside the law mining actions. For years, the company has been the subject of its violent and criminal action, which puts the company at risk and keeps it at constant threat and uncertainty.
Since 2013, Minera Penmont returned to the true ejidataries accredited to the Unitarian Court Agrarian Court 28 (TUA) all the grounds that were sued by them, unilaterally ending the occupation agreements they maintained with the company. However, a group linked to these, in an unpunished way, has sought to confuse various authorities and public opinion by arguing that it has legal possession of other land, which are private property, which has been duly credited by Minera Penmont as the sole owner I love you.
It should be noted that while criminal acts occurred in Caborca, on the same Thursday, March 26, a "journalist" originally from Sonora presented to the morning conference at the National Palace in Mexico City to question the President in favor of the criminal group not to mention at any time that a large group of men (60) violently entered the Predio El Bajío, private property of the mining and adjacent to the ejido of the same name throwing incendiary bombs, some of them with firearms and most with sticks, machetes and stones.
On March 11, this same group had already proceeded violently. With collecting machetes and molotov bombs, they tried to enter the same site, injuring 11 vigilantes and having to hospitalize one of them for more than five days. This event was reported to the relevant authorities, presenting one of the aggressors to the competent authorities.
Unfortunately, the fight between two local groups and their illegal acts against the company has taken several stages and has been starred by different groups. Some authorities have been sought to confuse some authorities and tried to do so with public opinion through the filing of agricultural lawsuit outside the subject, and then provoking a civil dispute and another criminal. However, during the last month, as a result of their attempts to simulate legitimacy seem exhausted, they have been launched into the open use of violence with characteristics that are specific to organized crime.
Mining Penmont reiterates that she has always acted legally and reiterates its full readiness to collaborate with the competent authorities to maintain the rule of law. These criminal and violent raids into privately owned land represent an unsustainable situation for the mine that employs 4,500 people in the region, sum investments for hundreds of millions of dollars and is a company highly committed to sustainable development, accredited by international bodies about it.
This situation of uncertainty and violence jeopardizes the integrity of our collaborators and the normal operation of this mine, exemplary in the international mining sector.
Mining Penmont categorically rejects one more act of violence with those criminal groups, which have shown that they have no regard for human life, let alone respect for authorities or legality.
The company holds those who materially or intellectual participated in this break-in violence for the integrity of their task force, as well as infrastructure and properties.
Federal and state authorities are fully informed and know the origin and criminal background of these attacks, and their early intervention is expected to provide the necessary security guarantees to maintain the operation of the mining complex that locally is one of the most important employment poles of the region.
