Energy Recovery Secures Major Desalination Contracts Worth $12M
Energy Recovery Secures Major Desalination Contracts
SAN LEANDRO, Calif.-- Energy Recovery (NASDAQ: ERII) has announced significant contract awards exceeding $12 million for its PX® Pressure Exchanger® energy recovery devices. These contracts involve three seawater reverse osmosis (SWRO) desalination projects located in the United Arab Emirates, enhancing water production capabilities.
Details of the Contracts
The combined capacity of these desalination plants is close to 1 million cubic meters per day. The orders are expected to be shipped by the fourth quarter of the following year, marking a substantial commitment to improving water sustainability in the region.
Innovative Offshore Solutions
One noteworthy contract includes the installation of PX technology on a floating desalination barge positioned in the Arabian Gulf. This innovative approach allows for the production of fresh water offshore, which is then pumped back to the mainland. This method effectively utilizes limited coastal land while catering to densely populated areas, providing a sustainable solution to freshwater challenges.
Enhanced Workplace Safety and Environmental Impact
The contracts will incorporate both the PX Q400 and PX Q300 models, noted for their relatively low operational sound levels at just 79 decibels. This aspect will contribute to better workplace environments for staff managing these SWRO plants. Furthermore, Energy Recovery's technology can reduce energy use by up to 60%, focusing on environmental sustainability and cost-effectiveness.
Energy Recovery's Commitment to Sustainability
Rodney Clemente, Senior Vice President of Water at Energy Recovery, highlighted the company's established reputation in the desalination sector, referring to their extensive experience dating back to their first large-scale contract in the region in 2008. They have since expanded their contracted capacity to about 5 million cubic meters per day, positioning themselves as a market leader. Clemente remarked, "We continue to innovate for and partner with our customers to deliver best-in-class products that cater to various industries across the globe."
Reducing CO2 Emissions
The contracts secured in the United Arab Emirates are predicted to save over 416 gigawatt hours of energy each year. This translates to a significant reduction of 201,265 tons of CO2 emissions annually, the equivalent of the yearly electricity consumption of over 36,000 homes. By utilizing state-of-the-art energy recovery solutions, Energy Recovery is at the forefront of efforts to combat climate change.
