Viridien Unveils Phase 2 of Gulf of Mexico Carbon Study
Viridien has released phase 2 of its GeoVerse™ Carbon Storage Screening Study of the Gulf of Mexico, which follows the successful delivery of phase 1. This advanced study complements Viridien's multi-client seismic data, presenting an extensive subsurface data landscape across the US Gulf of Mexico shallow waters and coastal regions. The new findings are timely and will expedite the identification of high-potential areas in anticipation of upcoming Request for Proposals from the Texas General Land Office and School Land Board regarding various carbon sequestration leases.
Integrated Package of Data
Both phases of the screening study are available for licensing, encapsulating a unique integrated package that includes interactive ArcGIS-compatible screening maps, digitized well data, and merged legacy seismic data pertinent to the productive shallow water shelf of the Gulf of Mexico basin. This area presents numerous large-scale aquifer stores throughout the geological stratigraphy.
Significance for CCUS Industry
Dechun Lin, EVP of Earth Data at Viridien, emphasized the importance of this new study, stating: “This Gulf of Mexico study is located over a key area of interest for the CCUS industry, with licenses already available for carbon storage and additional licensing rounds approaching. As we expand our footprint of screening studies in the world’s leading regions, we contribute to addressing the challenges faced by the global industry in advancing CCUS through our subsurface data, data science, and geoscience expertise. Viridien is dedicated to guiding operators in pinpointing areas with optimal potential by delivering a robust and globally consistent carbon storage screening approach.”
