TV Connect: Edgeware targets multiscreen video delivery
By Jamie Beach March 19th, 2013
Swedish firm Edgeware has released a new multiscreen version of its Distributed Video Delivery Network (D-VDN) solution, targeting cost-effective delivery of differentiated video services with real-time monitoring.
The new release includes intelligent session and content management options that enable increased savings in backhaul costs when delivering large back-catalogues, catch-up TV or network PVR services, along with advanced monitoring features to enable true, real-time analytics, even when delivering adaptive bit rate (ABR) streaming to millions of simultaneous devices.
The Edgeware D-VDN Solution now includes options to intelligently distribute content and client requests over multiple servers in a content-aware cluster , along with optional monitoring modules.
“Cost effective delivery of large time-shift and back-catalogue services is a real challenge, as is true, real-time monitoring of the delivered quality as the service scales,” said Jon Haley, VP product marketing and business development, Edgeware. “These new features were requested by customers striving to delivery highly differentiated, multiscreen services.”

MPEG-DASH deployment guidelines issued
By Jamie Beach June 21st, 2013
The DASH Industry Forum (DASH-IF), an industry body dedicated to promoting interoperable streaming of multimedia content over the Internet, has released its guidelines for deployment of the new MPEG-DASH standard , which promises to simplify the delivery of IP video.
The organisation’s DASH-AVC/264 implementation guidelines (available here) recommend using a subset of the MPEG-DASH standard, with specific video and audio codecs endorsed to promote interoperability between industry deployments.
Dr. Iraj Sodagar, DASH-IF President and Chairman of the Board, said: “Facilitating complete interoperability is the key to achieving rapid market adoption of the MPEG-DASH standard. The DASH-AVC/264 Implementation Guidelines offer companies a roadmap for developing interoperable products and services through real-world use cases from the multimedia streaming market.”
The new guidelines were created by the 67 members of DASH-IF , including founding members Akamai, Ericsson and Microsoft, and are also aligned with initiatives from other industry standards bodies and consortia such as HbbTV, DECE, DTG, HD-Forum, OIPF, EBU and DLNA.
Future guideline updates are expected to address advanced services and applications, including multichannel audio and HEVC support , and will be made available later this year.

....Ericsson seems to be connected from several different directions. Would not be surprised if different organizations, (mentioned above) have a common agenda of a world standard format for all............."We are IPTV".....and so much more
