Corporate and Social Responsibility

E-waste is a problem, and corporate social responsibility is real! We can help organizations achieve their CSR objectives.

We are currently in the midst of an ethical revolution designed to preserve our environment and to ultimately secure our future, but a lot more still needs to be done. The electronics industry is becoming increasingly aware of its environmental impact, and we can help in efforts to reduce energy demand and greenhouse gas emissions by building a robust secondary market as a viable alternative to purchasing new electronic equipment, and by using advanced engineering to de-manufacture electronics to re-capture and re-use the raw materials. The new hierarchy of eco-friendly processes for managing end-of-life electronics is, from most preferable to least preferable:

· Reuse

· Refurbishment

· Recycling

· Refining/demanufacturing

Historically, most ethical revolutions have resulted in more efficient modes of existence by creating more resources and a better quality of life. Rendering electronic components to the landfill is a waste of resources, a source of pollution and a waste of valuable metals and other materials that can be reused.

According to Gartner's research, the energy from manufacturing, distribution and use of information and communications technology, emits approximately 2% of total global carbon dioxide, a figure equivalent to the emissions produced by the entire airline industry. We owe it to ourselves to minimize this effect, and ideally lower it. Each tonne of e-waste recycled properly is equivalent to approximately 4.5 Metric Tonnes of CO2 emissions saved.
