IMO! the purpose of the tariffs, to offset the higher labor cost in the US, so that US companies can compete with the cheaper labor products made in China, to bring back manufacturing jobs back to the US.
Chinese owned companies will have American business because the back door of going though Mexico to enter the American market will be shut off to them though Tariffs.
I respect and agree with your opinion " Let’s build American products in America and generate American profits for future development and growth in American companies. No need to send operating profit back to foreign countries if we can do our jobs in America." I just don't believe it is the reality of what is going to happen.
You are correct currently there are no Chinese cars made in the US but what the Chinese has done to by pass the "made in The US" label is to sell Made in China cars under the all American brands "Buick" and "Lincoln" in the US..
