Having worked in gov't IT departments, I'd say the odds are zero to none. They're going to have to go to backups for a specified period of time, and who knows where they store their archived email files. They'll then have to do keyword searches and scan the emails to find any of interest. This will almost certainly delay the trial, which is probably what the defense is hoping for.
