Global Battery Metals Ltd is a mineral exploration company with a focus on metals that make up and support the rapid evolution to battery power. It was incorporated in 2005 and is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada.
Michael Murphy, age 55, is the CEO and Director of Global Battery Metals since 2010. Mr. Murphy received a BA from University of British Columbia in 1988, a MBA from St. Mary’s University in 1990, and a MSc from the London School of Economics in 1991. He retired from his role as Director in Torex Gold (TXG.TO) to pursue his venture for critical minerals in the lithium space for hard rock lithium in Ireland and in Newfoundland and for brine lithium in Utah. Michael Murphy is an astute entrepreneur, he selects potential mineral properties through government geological survey and conducts reconnaissance on resources potentials of their neighbors surrounding the properties before assembling a portfolio of commercially viable projects. He is very frugal in spending exploration money, he does not drill randomly but conducts targeted drilling with subsequent drilling plan based on the analytical result of previous drilling, his prudent exploration strategy culminated in slow drilling process and slow release of drill assays results. He is goal orientated and does not release news impulsively on 7/24 bases just to satisfy impatient investor's craving for news. Any news release is strategic.

GBML currently has three projects:
(1) A 100% owned Lithium King brine lithium project in Utah, USA.
(2) An option to acquire up to 90% of the North-West Leinster hard rock lithium property in Ireland.
(3) An option to acquire up to 100% of La Polie hard rock lithium property in Newfoundland.
GBML also has a 55-per-cent stake in Peru-based Lara copper property, which has over 10,000 meters of drilling. Minsur S.A., a Peruvian mining company, entered into an option agreement with GBML and Lara Exploration Ltd. to acquire the Lara property for US$5.75 million in staged payments. GBML will retain a 0.75-per-cent net smelter royalty.

Project resources potentials

Lithium King brine lithium project, Utah
Lithium King project consists of approximately 7,900 acres of placer claim located on the west side of the Great Salt Lake Basin in western Utah. Drill assays from Lithium King's close neighbor, Surge Battery Metals (NILI.V), with clay lithium resources reported a total of 120.4 meters averaging 3943 ppm lithium in four zones, including strongest individual sample interval (5950 ppm lithium between 13.72 to 15.24 meters).
NW Leinster hard rock lithium project, Ireland
The NW Leinster Project is focused on the exploration for hard rock lithium mineralization (spodumene pegmatites) in the north of the Leinster Massif in south-east Ireland. The project area is covered by 16 prospecting licenses termed the North-west Leinster Block which covers 525 square kilometer. The prospecting licenses were granted to LRH Resources Limited (a subsidiary of Technology Minerals) in October 2018 and are valid for an initial period of six-years from that date. GBML has an option agreement to earn 90%.
The NW Leinster Project is located at the north-east end of the East Carlow Deformation Zone (ECDZ) with licenses also located to the north of this zone in interpreted similar structural settings. To the immediate south-east, a 55km long zone of discrete lithium-bearing pegmatites and aplites, centred on the Aclare deposit was discovered during 1960s and 1970s near the contact of the Tullow Lowlands granite pluton with the Lower Palaeozoic metasediments which are considered genetically as well as spatially related to the ECDZ. The Aclare deposit is part of International Lithium Corp – Ganfeng Lithium Co. Ltd JV’s Avalonia Project. It is comprises of a 20 meter wide spodumene pegmatite zone with a historical resource estimate of 570,00 tonnes grading 1.5% lithium oxide. The strike length of the primary target zone is 550 meters with 2.23% lithium oxide over 23.3 meters, including 3.43% lithium oxide over 6 meters.
Significant sampling and mapping across the Knockeen Prospect has been conducted, assay results of 66 rock samples released by ALS Laboratories returning Li2O% lithium contents ranging up to 3.75 % Li2O / 17,410 ppm. In June, 2023, the company started a 2000-meter, 10-hole targeted drilling program in the company's Knockeen-Carriglead project (PLA 1597), the completed drill cores have been sent to the ALS Labs while the drilling of the remainining 2 holes is in progress, assays report will be released when the drilling program is completed and assays results received.
No drilling has ever been carried out in PLA 1597 previously and hitting bedrock pegmatites in the first hole drilled is considered a major technical success for the company. Drilling confirms Lithium-Cesium-Tantalum (LCT) pegmatite dike swarm at Knockeen Prospect with potential discovery of up to six LCT pegmatite dikes. Visual analysis of core suggests intervals of lithium mineralization among pegmatite intersections from all completed drill cores.
The companay also has commenced ‘district scale’ expanded exploration and prospecting activity across Northern Block licenses at key primary target areas, including Aghavannagh, Sorrel, Tonygarrow, Scurlocks and Knocknaboley. Surface rock samples show lithium oxide grade of over 2%.
Michael Murphy is so confident that the province of Leinster in Ireland will host commercially economical lithium resources to supply European Union in its EV Revolution that he has engaged Niall McManus, a sustainability consultant with EarthRoute and critical raw materials policy expert to the European Commission, to help steward stakeholder relations and Social License development efforts related to the Company’s advancing interests in the Leinster Lithium Project. The enagement is to promote Ireland as another emerging lithium district in Europe and is a precursor to EU funding in GBML's operation.
The demand for lithium is growing exponentially, Lithium metal production is expected to reach 134,700 tonnes versus 58,800 tonnes in 2020. Lithium demand will be driven by a surge in EV sales, with annual production expected to surge to 12.7 million vehicles in 2024, and a corresponding surge in lithium-ion battery production, which is forecast to rise to 410.5 GWh in 2024 and to 4700 GWh in 2030. The global Lithium-Ion Battery Recycling Market is valued at USD 8.81 Billion in 2020 and expected to reach USD 14.34 Billion by 2027 with the CAGR of 7.20%.

The Leinster property comprises of 16 Prospecting Licenses Area with 130,719 acres or 525 square kilometers, so far only 1% of the property has been explored and drilled in PLA 1597 (Knockeen and Carriglead area) and 6 LCT pegmatite dikes have been identified. More will be discovered as the company expands its 'district wide' exploration.
Lithium–caesium–tantalum (LCT) pegmatites are enriched in Li, Cs, Ta, Be, B, F, P, Mn, Ga, Rb, Nb, Sn and Hf. Examples of major LCT pegmatite deposits include the Tin Mountain pegmatite in the United States; Tanco pegmatite in Canada, Altai Number 3 pegmatite in China; the Greenbushes, Wodgina and Pilgangoora pegmatite in Western Australia; Bikita pegmatite in Zimbabwe; Kenticha pegmatite district in Ethiopia; LCT and Spodumene pegmatite in Ireland.
Another large boulder of solid spodumene from our lithium project in Ireland, a fragment broken off from a gigantic spodumene pegmatite in the depth and protruded onto the surface in a geological upheaval.

Where there is smoke, there is fire. There are massive spodumene pegmatites in the Northern Block from which the surface rock samples originated from, they are fragments broken off from the pegmatites.
