At the TIME there were no skills being imparted to slaves, period. It was SLAVERY.
Slaves, for the most part, were educated to do what their masters thought they needed to do and in some cases that proved to be very beneficial not just to them but for all of us today. I think Robert Smalls is a good example. Just think of how history would be altered had he not been allowed to learn extraordinary seamanship skills.

Jim Crow and de jure segregation were unnecessary racist obstacles for millions of blacks for 100 years. So was lynching.
Yes, it was truly a horrible time and a stain on our history that shouldn't be "washed out" but should be taught and remembered by all but what relevance does it have for our discussion? I thought we were talking about whether, or not, blacks today benefited from slavery in any way, shape, or form...... Oh yeah, I just remembered that your old neuron tends to wander.

But please, do write out your 'argument' and present it to your black bridge buddies. That you KNOW you can't do it confirms the silliness of the premise.
You never disappoint and with each encounter you always confirm that even though not fatal, lunkerheaditis is a disease that should always be taken seriously................... My premise, simply stated, is that blacks who are decedents from slaves in the country are better off than they would have been had their ancestors not been captured and brought here. If this is not the case, then tell me where in Africa our rising and prosperous black middle class would be better off. Surely you don't have South Africa in mind.
