Hey chazzle. All good. Judges don't oversee arbitrations, arbitrators chosen by the two parties do. An arbitrator might allow the parties more time to hash it out on their own, but if they cannot, this is BINDING ARBITRATION which means both parties are bound by whatever the arbitrator decides once they present their cases to him/her/they/them.
MEDIATION is where the two sides might try to reach an agreement with each other, but that is a completely different animal.
