We do not know if Omicron is in fact milder. Most of the cases have been in young previously healthy people, who normally have had milder cases for ALL the versions of COVID.
It's when (not if, unfortunately) it spreads to the older population that we will find out if it is less virulent than the original version and Delta.
Our overwhelmed hospitals are about to get another wave of patients as the people infected over Thanksgiving get sick enough to need hospital care, and just wait until the Christmas shopping idiots going maskless in crowded stores start testing positive and needing hospital care. It is incomprehensible to me that people think that the pandemic is over just because they are tired of restrictions.
