In this country it is school districts and universities. For them, the longer the shelf life, the better. In h.s. biology, the e coli unit is at the beginning of the year. We used to throw out product every summer.
Would have like to use them when I was teaching in the Foods lab, but we would only get the leftovers from the science department.
With COVID and schools and universities shut down, there would be very few sales.
