There was no attempt by Catholics to take over public schools, that's why there were so many parochial schools. You pay tuition, you get the religious instruction. That's a private matter and not taxpayer funded.
You're still missing the point as to why there is separation of church from state.
As for cancel culture? GOP is busy, busy, busy trying to avoid teaching history. They're also striving to cancel what happened on 1/6 and the election as well, to no avail.
