Patterson explicitly focused on an incomplete and weak hypothesis to try to shore up his claims on social media that they were "doing precision medicine".. hard to do that when you don't know what your target is, and he didn't. He pied-pipered his way into convincing hundreds of suffering long haulers to feed him their blood and data for free, and got little in return.
Good that the machines got some exercise, though.
