Let's say you're Nader P. Let's say you've prom

Let's say you've promised to announce something by a certain date before, and didn't manage to keep your promise on that occasion.
Let's say this has happened numerous times.
Let's say you've been told the Data Safety Monitoring Committee would have its results by a certain time -- say end of this week.
Let's say you go on national tv, for crissakes, and blurt out that you'll have results for the world by the end of the week.
But let's say the FDA is involved in reviewing the data, and the FDA takes longer than they said they would. (Government agencies always take longer than they say they would. It's a law of nature.)
And let's say you now know you won't have the results for a couple more days.
You can't blame it on the FDA: you NEVER want to blame the FDA for anything.
What would you do?
