By the way, that extra ~4M shares needing to be covered (assuming the 40M mark) could be assumed to have been covered today as now I see there was a T-trade printed after hours :

So if we assume that was a buy to cover then all of the existing shorts we estimated needed to be covered are indeed covered. Today another ~28M shorts were executed, so that is our new running total. If the next three sessions consist cumulatively of less volume than that figure we will have a problem. My prediction is that we will indeed see cumulatively that the volume in the next three sessions are enough to cover the existing 28M shorts. However, remember too that its a rather sour taste for some to only buy to cover and not engage in any other addictive games so I imagine there will be at least double that volume in more shorting and more covering, which would lead us to predict say ~30M shorts to cover plus another ~60M more new fresh shorts plus about ~90M in covering, for the next three sessions, total of 180M, so spread out over three days is roughly 60M in volume per day, or at about this same level we witnessed today, give or take a few ten million. Weeeeeeeeeee 
Is it not amazing that exactly the right number of real retail traders and investors login to their brokerages and trade the exact number of shares needed to provide enough liquidity on a daily basis for all these daily shennaningans?! Wow! It's like lightening striking in a bottle!
