Re: cashclan #39660
Religion was never 'taken out' of the PUBLIC schools. The SCOTUS ruled that the establishment clause mandated no school sanctioned prayer in public schools. Prescient, coming as it did when the country was more religiously homogeneous than now.

All taxpayers paid for public schools, including Jews and atheists. Pray at home, in church, synagogue, mosque, on the bus, on the train, wherever the hell you want, just don't ask the secular by design state to take your side and impose the same prayer on others,

Imagine the shit that would be lost if not for that ruling? Long ago the recitation of the Torah would have competed with Christian prayer over the intercom. And now the Muslim call to prayer over the same intercoms would be legal. NO establishment of religion means NO.

I remember being let out early from my parochial school on Wednesdays, so public school Catholic kids could come to be taught the Catechism.

So my parents PAID for religious instruction, and of course kids prayed in school as long as there were pop quizzes.

Anyway, the Christian Brothers in my HS educated me out of my religion. All that fucking math, science, history and English homework.

'What's your hypothesis?' Where's your proof?' from my biology and algebra teachers did the trick. Once you instill the critical thinking skills, goodbye religion....and never a weakness for conspiracy theories takes hold.
