Remdesivir is in an entirely different category. On the basis of actual scientific analysis, it was a good drug to try. The Chinese study is incredibly flawed and utterly untrustworthy, for these reasons, taken from a post at the IPIX board.

GILD news should be taken with a box of salt. Remember that the study that was supposedly "accidentally" leaked (hahahahahahaha) was based on analysis of statistics from a Chinese hospital. They say they gave Remdesivir to a bunch of patients and saw no benefit.
The "study" is utterly flawed.
First, we don't know how sick the patients were. Were all of the patients who were treated already so sick they had no chance of survival?
Second, are we sure that they received the right amounts of drug, administered correctly over 10 days? Or were they so sick they died right away?
I could go on and on about it, but it doesn't matter. This is a bogus "study," is utterly untrustworthy, and we're supposed to have REAL results from U.S. clinical trials that have control groups, sometime this summer.
