They’re calling this SARS2 as it shares 96% of the genetic sequence of SARS1.. It shares some of the remaining 4% with other viruses, however.

I don’t believe they’re having little viral trysts / exchanging genetic material amongst themselves, nor that 15 years of natural selection in bat hosts just happened to yield these mutations.
