The part about the "Waldos" that makes zero sense

The part about the "Waldos" that makes zero sense to me is why would these people keep hiding their identities?? Whatever they are doing in their professional lives would pale in comparison to the fame (fortune?) they would have by coming out of the shadows and celebrating their iconic naming. Huge missed opportunity for them - you only live once, don't live it afraid of MJ prosecution. It's 2020 for crying out loud, not the 70's.
