Tropic,
you have been misinformed. Any time you unplug the unit, whether the car is on or off, a message will be sent to the administrator. I'm not an engineer or techy kind of person but it interacts with the cars on board diagnostics and the Bluetooth on the phone. If the car is off and the teenager takes it out, when he/she starts the car it will recognize its not plugged in. It updates immediately, and I have several screen shots when I tested and retested it last year. But I don't know how to attach them to a post.

There is a map that shows everywhere they have driven as well as it keeps score, taking off points for touching your phone, over riding and calling / texting or answering calls. You start each day at 100 and lose points for every infraction. You lose all 100 points for unplugging it by the way.

You can set it up to receive certain calls from someone (wife, mom, dad) in case its an emergency. I worked with customer service at Cogosense and they were very knowledgeable, informative and timely.

They have added new features since then which include everything an insurance company would want such as hard braking, rapid acceleration, etc. He even put out a Press Release about it because it is such good news.

Now today Steve tweets it is being tested by a third party, which is amazing and upon approval will only increase the long term value of the company, and everybody complains. Insurance Companies want/need this validation before making any deals. Yes, maybe some of the biggest insurance companies already have something in place but there are plenty who don't.

Probably, more than you asked for but hope this helps.
