Well, a mis-folded protein, again.

...how this recent Parkinson's-gut news relates to Anavex and 2-73
The article tells where a misfolded protein, alpha-synuclein, moves along the vagus nerve from the gut into the brain; where the misfolded protein then causes Parkinson’s. Well and good.
The relationship of this to Anavex 2-73? Perhaps (most likely) very strong, in this regard.
I noted in separate information discovery that alpha-synuclein is normally localized in neuronal mitochondria. Mis-folded forms of the protein would there, most likely, compromise normalized mitochondrial functions. With that, downstream processes facilitated by mitochondrial function would then be negatively affected — including proper protein folding in the associated endoplasmic reticula. Importantly, Anavex 2-73 prevents such protein mis-folding.
Simply, Anavex 2-73 might very well restore normalized mitochondrial and endoplasmic reticular functions, which jointly, then, would allow the genetics of the neuron to produce properly-folded proteins (enzymes) that control virtually all of the chemistry of neurons and nerves. Healthful neuron biochemistry would then be facilitated. Mis-folded proteins, enzymes, would no longer be produced. Parkinson’s disease would be prevented or reversed.
