Uceris is a steroid. According to the company's website,
Quote:
UCERIS tablets may reduce the level of flare-ups in the colon, which helps the lining of the colon to heal.
Meanwhile, in a short course of treatment, Brilacidin healed the lesions -- as shown by the gold standard of evidence, photographic proof of before-and-after healing (via sigmoidoscopy). We do not know yet if it is a cure, or merely causes a long-lasting remission -- but it actively heals, and in a shorter course of NON-SYSTEMIC treatment -- Brilacidin 42 days, Uceris 56 days.
Brilacidin has seemingly no significant side effects, as it is not systemically absorbed. What about Uceris? According to the company,
Quote:
UCERIS tablets may weaken your immune system. Taking medicines that weaken your immune system makes you more likely to get infections.
....some people may have too much corticosteroid medicine in their blood (hypercorticism). Talk to your doctor if you have any symptoms of hypercorticism, including: acne, bruising easily, rounding of your face (moon face), ankle swelling, thicker or more hair on your body and face, a fatty pad or hump between your shoulders (buffalo hump), or pink or purple stretch marks on the skin of your abdomen, thighs, breasts, and arms.
It is incredibly deceptive to cherry-pick ONE drug -- Uceris -- out of the vast numbers of drugs used for ulcerative colitis, and then claim that the market for ALL UC drugs is small, because one drug is not used very much.
This is like claiming the market for Bayer-brand aspirin is the entire market for over-the-counter pain relief - - not including Tylenol or any of the NSAIDS like Ibuprofen or Naproxen -- and all of their generics. Contrary to the deceptive post, Uceris is very, very far from being "the go-to drug" for this syndrome.
Drugs used include (broad categories):
Quote:
•5-aminosalicylic acid (5-ASA). Balsalazide, mesalamine, olsalazine, and sulfasalazine are the main medications used to treat ulcerative colitis....
Corticosteroids. [Note: this category includes Uceris as one of many drugs]
•These anti-inflammatory drugs can be used if 5-ASA drugs don't work for you or if you have more severe disease. These medicines sometimes have side effects and long-term complications....
•Immunosuppressants. If corticosteroids or 5-ASA drugs don't help, your doctor may prescribe these kinds of drugs....
•Biologics. This group of drugs includes adalimumab (Humira), adalimumab-atto (Amjevita) and adalimumab-adbm (Cyltezo) - biosimilars to Humira, certolizumab pegol (Cimzia), golimumab (Simponi, SImponi Aria), infliximab (Remicade), ), Infliximab-abda (Renflexis), infliximab-dyyb (Inflectra), a biosimilar to Remicade, tofacitinib (Xeljanz), and vedolizumab (Entyvio).
