'He Called Their Bluff': Homan Says Trump's
Sanctuary City Plan Shows Dems' 'Hypocrisy'
< >

Former Acting ICE Director Thomas Homan supports President Trump's "ingenious" idea to release immigrant detainees in sanctuary cities.

White House Press Secretary Sarah Sanders confirmed to "Fox News Sunday" that Trump's prospective plan is undergoing a "complete and thorough review," days after Democrats who have fought to protect illegal immigrants from federal authorities characterized the possible move as a dangerous stunt.

Democrats, Sanders asserted, have no plan on immigration other than to "fight the president" as he attempts to address the ongoing border crisis.

On "Fox & Friends" Monday, Homan said Trump's plan is "absolutely plausible," and he noted that many illegal immigrants already make their own way to sanctuary cities, which do not cooperate with federal immigration authorities.

"But what the president did, I think, is ingenious. He called their bluff. He said, 'You know what? I'm gonna send you more,'" Homan said. "What he did was, he pulled the curtain back on the Democratic leadership, showing the hypocrisy that they say they want these people in the United States, they want open borders -- 'as long as it's not in my district, as long as it's not in my neighborhood, we're fine with it.'"

He said Democrats are set on "resisting" Trump's efforts to address the crisis, because immigration and border security were focal points of his 2016 campaign.

"They want to be able to say, 'He failed. He president failed on his number one promise,'" Homan said. "This is about resistance. This is about giving him a loss on the border."
