To correct myself a little based on my understanding, invasive cancers are not always metastatic if it stays in the same organ, but invasive cancers are metastatic when they spread to other organs. Stage IV cancers are often referred to as metastatic cancer (meaning it has spread to other parts of the body), but all stages of cancer can metastasize.
