I'm fine with removing the insurance companies. Having seen some inside workings of a government system, the VA, I'm not convinced that the inefficiency of a government system is better than the profit taking of a for-profit healthcare system, i.e., the inefficiency might be more costly than the profit gained. The for-profit system competition makes it more efficient, the government system more fair. I'm not sure the solution, maybe different competing government systems. One item I don't like, if my insurance has to pay, they get a heavy discount, but if they don't agree to pay, I pay full price (even though I'm on their plan, I don't get their discounted price). And of course, I personally don't like my doctor has to run items by my insurance to see if they will cover it first. If the MD views it necessary, I'm not sure why the insurance gets to voice their opinion. Maybe a second MD opinion, yes, sure, but not an insurance opinion.
