Dangerous Ulcerative Colitis treatment: Pfizer was going to recommend 2 5-mg Xeljanz pills daily for UC. Guess what -- they've discovered that this dose for rheumatoid arthritis greatly increases risk of pulmonary embolism and death.

So this is also a PSA -- if you're taking Xeljanz, read the article, print it out and see your doctor. People think that doctors are always on top of these kinds of things but they are not -- there are so many things like this that it's really difficult for doctors to keep up on them all. I've brought articles to doctors on several occasions that shocked them to discover they'd been prescribing wrongly for patients.
Another big one is the black box warning on the fluoroquinolones like Cipro -- they should be used only as last resort because of the serious and life-changing side effects they can have, like seizures and strokes.
