Sometimes when you need it the most, you find support in the most unlikely of places.
Such is the case for Rachel Robbins. When the 27-year-old was diagnosed with a cancerous brain tumor, she never expected the president and the first lady to be the ones to give her the boost she needed to fight the disease.
Robbins, a nursing student at the University of South Alabama, found quite a surprise when she opened her mail one day, Fox News reported.

Inside was a personal note from President Donald Trump and Melania Trump.
“I was just amazed, honestly, I couldn’t believe it,” Robbins told Fox News. “I felt very honored that the president of the United States of America heard my story and was praying for me from the White House.”

Cody Sanders, one of Robbins’ childhood friends from First Baptist Church of Eufaula, works in the West Wing as a speechwriter. He told the president about the health troubles Robbins was facing and Trump took it to heart and decided to comfort the woman in her time of need.
“We recently learned of the courage and tenacity you have displayed during the course of your illness. We are keeping you and your loved ones in our prayers, and send our warmest wishes for a swift and full recovery,” the letter from President Trump and the first lady read.
“We hope that the love and support of friends and family strengthens and encourages you during this difficult time. We ask that God grant you comfort and strength as you continue this brave battle. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Get well soon!”
Robbins told Fox News, “I love how the letter’s written and addresses God and calls on Him for my healing and my recovery.”
Robbins, who is a former Liberty Counsel staff member and Covenant Journey alumni, never expected to have so many people on her side as she fought the terrible cancer disease.
Not only was Trump and the first lady pulling for her, but she had people from all around the world praying for her recovery.
“It is incredible that the president and the first lady would take the time to send a letter of encouragement to someone they have never met,” Mat Staver, founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel, told Fox News.
“This letter is very special. In the din of political debate, very few people hear about touching stories like this one and the person touched by the family occupying the highest office in the land.”
“We are asking people to continue to pray for Rachel and her family. No matter the circumstances, nothing is impossible for God. Throughout this process, Rachel has demonstrated an unusual peace and trust that only comes from a personal relationship with Jesus Christ,” he added.
Robbins’ parents were summer missionaries in the Cayman Islands and had spread the word of her plight, gaining prayers from around the world.
Robbins found she had the tumor after she had received an MRI. She had run 7 miles and lifted weights the day before her MRI.
While Robbins had symptoms for about a year, she never knew she had a lime-sized tumor in the back of her brain. Her tumor was removed on Feb. 1 at the Flowers Hospital in Dothan, Alabama.
Robbins is still undergoing treatment for her cancer, but she is on the road to recovery.
Coincidentally, Robbins works on the heart floor of the Providence Hospital in Mobile as a hospital aid. The cancer experience has given her better insight into what her patients go through on a daily basis.
“I want to be a nurse first assist just like the nurses that helped me in my surgery,” Robbins told Fox News.
