SACRAMENTO, Calif., Feb. 12, 2019 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- ACWA Executive Director Dave Eggerton issued the following statement in response to Gov. Gavin Newsom’s remarks on water in his first State of the State address:

"In delivering his first State of the State address, Gov. Gavin Newsom recognized the need for a holistic approach to meeting California’s water challenges, addressing urban, agriculture and environmental issues with an 'and/yes' approach as opposed to 'either/or.'

"ACWA appreciates the governor’s enthusiasm for water issues and emphasis on pursuing a comprehensive approach to addressing long-term water supply reliability, including improved Delta conveyance, infrastructure investment, and groundwater recharge. ACWA encourages the governor to continue implementation of the broad strategies outlined in the California Water Action Plan.

“ACWA also strongly agrees with Gov. Newsom that ensuring Californians have access to safe drinking water is an urgent priority and for this reason ACWA and California Municipal Utilities Association are sponsoring legislation to create a Safe Drinking Water Trust that will help provide access to safe drinking water."
