I also originally got into this over 10 years ago because of Oralyn and both type 1 and type 2 diabetes running in my extended family. My first cousin died with type 1 at age 31 years ago. He worked a night shift, came home in the morning, gave himself an insulin shot, then fell asleep before he ate. He went into a coma and died 3 weeks later. Just recently my 10 year old nephew was diagnosed with type 1. I watch him struggle with needles and think if only Oralyn was there for him. (hopefully it will be approved eventually for both type 1 and 2). My grandmother died of complications of type 2 at an early age. I don't think she was well controlled at all - probably afraid to start insulin because of the needles.
