CNA has the tools, services and solutions to assist companies in managing driver and fleet exposures by providing the critical elements of a safety program, along with materials focused on avoiding the primary causes of motor vehicle accidents such as distracted driving. Our highly experienced Risk Control consultants understand how to help evaluate and manage your company's fleet to maximize productivity and efficiency. Newbold Services, whose fleet of vehicles exceeds 1.5 million miles per year, was the first U.S. customer to implement the "FleetSafer" software program on all company cell phones. This software disables the text and email functions when operating a vehicle in excess of 5 miles per hour and only allows voice communications when using a hands-free device.

Safe Lane Transportation Coalition
Regional Safety Planning
In 2015 and 2016 coalition partners came together to develop Transportation Safety Action Plans serving Lane County. To date, the Metropolitan Policy Committee has adopted a safety plan for the metro area. A rural plan will be considered by the Board of County Commissioners in July.
Oregon has long been a leader in transportation safety through the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) Transportation Safety Division. ODOT has developed a statewide Transportation Safety Action Plan (TSAP). The Oregon (TSAP) establishes a set of actions that Oregonians have identified as steps to a safer travel environment.
Building on the success and partnerships of this planning process, the MPO and Lane County with support from ODOT are launching a safety program in Lane County. This program will focus on reducing fatal and severe crashes in our region through education, outreach, and enforcement efforts.

Quote:Technology Can Reduce Distracted Driving
Did you know that technology exists that can prevent distracted driving crashes and save lives? This most often takes the form of smartphone apps which detect when a vehicle is moving and provides feedback on driver behavior. Some systems block calls and texts while others score drivers on distraction avoidance. Advanced technologies are capable of tracking speed and sudden stops.
Emergency override is standard on all technologies allowing users to dial 911 if necessary. Unlock features allow phones to be used by a passenger or on public transportation.
Cogosense technology is one of the top solutions listed to prevent distracted driving.

IH Services
We Have a History of Success
In 1955, Dick Hendley started a small family-owned business called IH Services in Greenville, South Carolina providing restroom cleaning to gas stations and restaurants.
Dick was a true pioneer in industrial outsourcing. He began providing janitorial services to manufacturing customers who needed around-the-clock cleaning. His vision helped manufacturers outsource indirect jobs, such as sweepers, haulers, packers, cleaners, and allowed clients to focus on their core business — making products — not cleaning up. This was the start of outsourcing as we know it today.
The need for a better quality of cleaning in the textile industry brought IH Services its first industrial client in 1958 — a client still being serviced today and one of the first industrial facilities to outsource janitorial services.
Over the past 56 years, IH Services, which is still owned by the same family, has grown steadily by providing quality, consistent services to its customers and a broad range of cleaning and support services. Today, IH Services has a presence in 18 states offering positive outcomes and solutions to our customers.
IH Services provides clean working environments for industrial, commercial, distribution, healthcare and institutional clients throughout the United States. Our reputation is built on our ability to identify our customers’ needs, and to select, train and manage the right people to meet those needs.

FleetSafer from Cogosense Technology is software for smartphones and tablets that automatically puts the device in “Safe Mode” while driving. In Safe Mode, a curtain screen blocks access to the keyboard and screen. All notifications and alerts are suppressed, including incoming calls, texts, and emails. FleetSafer is designed to keep employees and others safe on the road by eliminating distractions from smartphones while driving.

Developing solutions to driver distraction
http://fleetowner.com/blog/developing-solutio...istraction
"We know drivers want to be connected while driving, but how do we safely give drivers what they want?" noted Doug Patton, senior vice president of engineering at global automotive supplier Denso International America, Inc.
Near-term, however, a lot of work continues upon the issue of how to eliminate or at least reduce driver distractions cause by smart phones and other personalized electronic devices while a vehicle is in operation.
Quote:Employees who use mobile phones or tablets while driving are not only a danger to themselves; they also pose a significant risk and liability to their employer,” he explained, adding that FleetSafer is also equipped with a patent-pending method that automatically places the employee’s mobile device in “safe mode” when driving is sensed that also prevents a driver from evading the “safe mode” while driving, excluding emergency calls.

APRIL – DISTRACTED DRIVING AWARENESS MONTH – Riding season is on…
Watch out for distracted drivers…they are everywhere. Nothing is more threatening to us motorcycle riders than the distracted driver who now commonly occupies our streets, roadways and highways. Driving mobile phone users and habitual texters have become a real menace to all motorcycle riders and cagers alike. 3,477 people were killed and over 421,000 injured in 2015, according to the latest government data.
The distracted driver problem is getting worse in my opinion and this deadly practice must simply, somehow, be stopped.

The technology is available…we just need laws to implement it. I am now convinced that society has no choice but to vote in the mandatory use of this phone scrambling technology less we want distracted driving accidents to continue to wreck the lives of innocent people. Check out one of the leading companies offering such a product, CogoSense Company.
