I just used Adamas as an example. If they knew there were issues with the drug, they would be starting to work on plan b. The odds are not great there are issues, but it is a small possibility although there are other companies that can partner.
Take a look at Acadia where everything was rosy and now the stock tanked. At least Elto has a good safety profile that's well established. I don't know about gocovri, but you are right, companies usually don't try to buy up the comp in the biotech field unless they bet on a lame horse.
