HSINCHU, Taiwan, Nov. 20, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- The Industrial Technology Research Institute ( ITRI ), Taiwan’s largest and one of the world’s leading high-tech applied research institutions, received eight 2017 R&D 100 Awards and one inaugural R&D 100 Special Recognition Award on November 17 in Orlando, Florida. ITRI’s technologies were selected as winners for innovation in the IT/Electrical, Mechanical/Material, Process/Prototyping, and Software/Services categories, and its LCD Waste Recycling System also received an R&D 100 Special Recognition Award in Green Tech. ITRI is currently seeking partnerships with global companies that will bring these innovative, patented R&D 100 Award-winning technologies to market:
- CoolSo ( IT/Electrical), a wearable gesture input device, improves user immersive experience with VR/AR products, where fast and high-precision gesture technology is imperative for game interaction.
- ChemSEI-Linker ( Mechanical/Material), a composite material, paste and linking material applied to lithium battery electrodes, increases battery life up to 70 percent and makes lithium batteries easier to recycle.
- The LCD Waste Recycling System ( Mechanical/Material and Special Recognition in Green Tech ), is a zero-waste, eco-friendly, and cost-effective total solution for waste LCD panels treatment. It solves the difficult problem of separating three main components of LCD panels—liquid crystal, indium, and glass—and recycling each component for future use.
- CINmat ( Process/Prototyping) , a multi-mode microwave annealing technology , solves the dopant diffusion issue of 12-inch wafers in the 5-nm semiconductor process, achieves dopant activation at lower temperatures (< 500˚C) in the front end of line (FEOL), and reduces annealing process cost by 85 percent. ITRI collaborated with National Chiao Tung University and National Nano Device Laboratories in developing CINmat.
- BESTAI (Building Energy Simulation Technology with Artificial Intelligence) ( Software/Services), an artificially intelligent simulator, allows non-specialists to analyze building energy use and obtain high return on energy efficiency investments.
- CyberEpi ( Software/Services), a simulation software suite, optimizes epitaxial process parameters and MOCVD equipment design parameters to reduce time, improve productivity and yield in the production of light-emitting diodes (LEDs), solar cells, wireless communications devices, and high-power integrated circuits.
- Power and Thermal-Aware Electronic System Level Platform (PT-ESL) ( Software/Services) is an architectural level modeling and simulation solution for efficiently analyzing power consumption, performance bottlenecks, and thermal hotspots of electronic systems and semiconductor devices, enabling 25 percent shorter time to market and 30-to-70 percent lower power consumption and heat dissipation.
- Prognostic and Health Management Software in Semiconductors (PHM) ( Software/Services) uses AI-based machine learning algorithms to create the world’s first successful fault prognosis system to predict equipment failure and component wear in semiconductor manufacturing, machinery, medicine, and power sectors.
