Ottawa, ON, Nov. 20, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- On Giving Tuesday – November 28 – Canadians may want to consider giving youth the gift of adventure and self-confidence by donating to Scouts Canada’s No One Left Behind program. Giving Tuesday, which originated in the United States as a movement to give back to the community after Cyber Monday, has now expanded its good will across North America to encourage more people to give to others.
Scouts Canada’s No One Left Behind program is aimed at reducing the barriers of participating in Scouting by subsidizing membership and related costs such as uniforms, outdoor equipment and camps. By donating to the program on Giving Tuesday, Canadians will be giving youth and families who are experiencing financial hardship the gift of adventure, friendship and so much more.
“Every young person deserves equal opportunity to enjoy what Scouting offers from outdoor adventures to first time experiences and important life skills that help them develop into confident and capable individuals better prepared for success in the world,” said Andrew Price, Executive Commissioner and CEO of Scouts Canada. “Although Scouting is already very affordable, we recognize that not all families have additional disposable income.. We want to ensure that no youth who wants to experience Scouting is left behind.”
Since 2010, No One Left Behind has supported nearly 16,000 Canadian youth. Last year alone, the program assisted over 3,000 youth with their registration fees, enabled over 400 youth to purchase uniforms, handbooks and outdoor gear, and sent 517 youth to camp. To meet the continued demand, Scouts Canada increased funding for the program to nearly $500,000 for the 2017-18 Scouting year, made possible by the generous support of Canadian donors.
