Neither pure, nor simple, nor accurate. Classic false equivalency.

First of all the chances of any GOPER politician apologizing for KKK membership and conducting himself in ways contrary to KKK 'principles' is slim and none, and we both know who just left town.

Secondly, you can't refute what I claimed about how the man's votes changed over time and how they reflected how his views changed. If he hadn't changed Dems and the press would have ripped him, deservedly.

As for 'forgive and forget'? The entire Trump campaign and his presidency have placed 'forgive and forget' on backorder in the Wal-Mart 'GOP Hypocrisy and Double Standards' section.

Quote:
For the 2003–2004 session, the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP)[64] rated Byrd's voting record as being 100% in line with the N.A.A.C.P.'s position on the thirty-three Senate bills they evaluated.

Sixteen other senators received that rating. In June 2005, Byrd proposed an additional $10,000,000 in federal funding for the Martin Luther King, Jr. National Memorial in Washington, D.C., remarking that, "With the passage of time, we have come to learn that his Dream was the American Dream, and few ever expressed it more eloquently."[65]

Upon news of his death, the NAACP released a statement praising Byrd, saying that he "became a champion for civil rights and liberties" and "came to consistently support the NAACP civil rights agenda".[66]
