Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and a key White House adviser, on Monday spoke at a summit aimed at gathering ideas for modernizing the government.
Executives from major companies like Apple, Microsoft and Amazon attended the event.
Kushner, who helps lead the White House Office of American Innovation, has not spoken publicly since being named to the administration.
"We will unleash the creativity of the private sector to provide citizen services in a way that has never happened before," Kushner said, explaining that they aim to find innovative ways to streamline government services, trim regulations and cut federal costs.
"By modernizing these systems we will meaningfully improve the lives of tens of millions of Americans," Kushner said.
In addition to his responsibilities with the Office of American Innovation, Kushner is traveling to the Middle East this week to work on a peace deal between Israel and Palestine.
