Kurtz Calls Out MSNBC Host's 'Appalling' Comments About Steve Scalise

"Mediabuzz" host Howard Kurtz called out MSNBC's Joy Reid for making "appalling" comments about House Majority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA).

Reid criticized Scalise on her show Saturday, claiming his record on race is now being ignored after the congressman was shot in the hip last week by a gunman targeting Republican members of Congress.

"Because he is in jeopardy and everybody is pulling for him, are we required in a moral sense to put that aside in the moment?” Reid wondered.

Kurtz said on "America's Newsroom" it was wrong for Reid to attack Scalise, who remains hospitalized in serious condition, "because she doesn't like his politics."

He also questioned Reid's tweet that highlighted that Scalise was shot by a white man and saved by a black lesbian Capitol Hill police officer.

Why bring race into it? Why bring sexual preference into it? It's just ugliness," Kurtz said.

Reid also sent out a tweet that was critical of Scalise for co-sponsoring a bill that defines marriage as between a man and a woman, voting for the House health care bill, and co-sponsoring a bill to repeal the ban on semi-automatic weapons.

Following the shooting at the congressional baseball practice, which left several others injured, many lawmakers called for unity and for the political rhetoric to be tamped down.
