If they can get patients to do these unpleasant (mild term) retention enemas, it shows how desperate people are to find relief. As Mr. Ehrlich says, a foam formulation should be even more effective and easier to administer.
I can't help but think that the, um, expulsion of the retention enemas is NOT good for the mucosal lining (as it's going to take some mucosal cells with the fluid) -- so not having that as part of the treatment in itself could improve outcome.
