One of the biggest criticism I've heard about Big Pharma is that they spend far too much money in developing ways of extending the life under patent of their most successful drugs, and far too little on research on truly new products. Most of the truly revolutionary new drugs have their genesis in research institutions or tiny Biotech's, but ultimately are purchased by Big Pharma, and for all intents and purposes they make it sound like they developed them. It's sad, but they have Congress convinced that they're the ones doing all this development.
I don't doubt that Big Pharma has been working to keep cannabis a category 1 substance. I think they may be losing control, but until Congress actually changes the designation the battle will still be on. Session's is clearly taking Big Pharma's side.
