Would be great news for those suffering from RP if one of the many companies trying to come up with a solution would be successful. Gene Therapy is still in its infancy but there are a couple of good articles at the bottom of this post that talk about the promises and challenges.

MANF may be a different approach because of its protective functional effects not only for RP, but for macular degeneration (MD), central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO), central retinal artery occlusion (CRAO) and glaucoma.

Some of the MANF research suggest it being used along with other therapies. One of the example that was posted before was using MANF to preserve in retinal transplantation since only 1 percent of transplanted cells survive.
