OAKLAND, Calif., March 03, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- DNV GL’s work with San Mateo’s Regionally Integrated Climate Action Planning Suite (RICAPS) initiative was honored today by the U.S. Environmental Agency’s (EPA) Climate Leadership Award in the Innovative Partnerships category. Presented by the EPA in conjunction with the Center for Climate and Energy Solutions (C2ES) and The Climate Registry (TCR), this award recognizes organizations working collaboratively on leading edge climate initiatives. The RICAPS initiative, which is managed by staff from the County of San Mateo Office of Sustainability, assists the 21 local jurisdictions in the county to develop and implement climate action plans to reduce greenhouse gas emissions countywide. To support the RICAPS program, DNV GL developed a suite of tools including a greenhouse gas reduction measure analysis tool, word document templates and approaches for tracking climate action planning progress. DNV GL also provided individualized technical assistance to facilitate the development of climate action plans focused on strategies including energy efficiency, distributed energy resources, high performance buildings, waste diversion, water conservation and transportation demand management.
“Local governments are truly on the forefront of climate action and sustainability to create a higher living standard for their residents and help their communities grow and thrive,” said Betty Seto, head of DNV GL’s Sustainable Buildings and Communities team. “The RICAPS initiative serves as a model for regional collaboration to develop customized tools and technical support that allow all cities and towns to take action on clean energy and climate goals.”
Since 2011, DNV GL has served as the technical assistance provider for countywide climate planning for each of the cities in the program and San Mateo County. As a result of the RICAPS program, all of the cities in San Mateo County have either implemented climate action plans or are in the process of completing one.
