NXP Enables Security and Privacy Compliance with the EU New General Data Protection Regulation

BARCELONA, Spain, Feb. 27, 2017 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- (MWC2017) – The new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), taking effect on May 25, 2018, requires domestic and foreign businesses across the European Union to ensure data privacy and security. Companies that violate the new privacy regulations may face penalties of up to four percent of their worldwide revenue or up to 20 million Euros.

The growth of connected devices and appliances in the IoT requires all businesses to closely assess their security and privacy posture to avoid potential liability. NXP, with its Security by Design methodology, is at the core of helping businesses in safeguarding GDPR compliance by adding multiple layers of security plus privacy protection to systems and consumer data – while at the same time providing a more enhanced consumer experience.

“The GDPR can significantly impact organizations’ business models and their product designs, processes and devices in the future, as companies must double down to ensure data privacy is built into every aspect of their operations,” said Ruediger Stroh, Executive Vice President Security and Connectivity at NXP. “NXP technology and Security by Design methodology enable establishing a trusted ecosystem that protects data at the foundational level. This is even more important as the IoT opens an entirely new set of considerations. That is why customers worldwide rely on NXP for developing heightened security for automotive, payment and loyalty, transit, eIDs, online transactions and other solutions. And that is also why NXP’s solutions are years ahead of our customers’ requirements for advanced security and privacy in smarter, more connected solutions.”
