Wife and I had visited Portland ME and found it OK

Wife and I had visited Portland ME and found it OK but since we were just passing thru on our way North we only had time for a nice lunch by the piers and that was about it.  Later, we took a cruise out of Boston and took my Mom and Portland was to be a 1/2 day stop.  I looked at it as the throw away day of the cruise.  Well, we went shopping in the morning and had a great time, came back for a nice lunch on the ship, and my wife headed out for more shopping.  Mom and I had a few hours to kill and since we were right next to the ferry pier we took the ferry thru the 2 or 3 islands in the Portland harbor.  Turned out to be one of the nicest and most memorable days I have ever spent with my Mom.  We had a terrific time and the views were great.  There must have been a jillion lobster traps out and we enjoyed watching the crews haul them in and let them out.  I will now always remember Portland as one of the highlights of my travels for what it provided for my Mom and me.  You are lucky to be able to live in that neck of the country.  The only problem with the area I found is that most people talk something like English but not really English.
